Community food drive for local animal shelters

What is the problem or frustration you want to solve using this grant?

Local animal shelters are struggling to provide enough food for rescued animals due to rising costs and limited donations.

Why do you think it has yet to be solved? Is it only a lack of funding or are there other barriers at play?

There is a lack of awareness in the community and no coordinated effort to organize large-scale food drives for shelters.

What is the best case outcome of receiving this grant?

The food drive will supply shelters with several months’ worth of food, improve animal welfare, and inspire ongoing community support.

If you had access to 10x the funding amount, what could you improve? How would the outcome and impact change?

We could expand the drive to more neighborhoods, support additional shelters, and provide medical supplies alongside food.

How will you go about executing the idea?

I will partner with local volunteers, businesses, and schools to set up collection points and organize delivery to shelters.

What is an interesting (operational) detail about the project that is non-obvious to an outsider?

We will use a simple online tracker so donors and shelters can see real-time progress and needs.

What does the timeline to completion look like? Any major factors that could delay the project? Any hard deadlines you need to comply with?

Planning: 2 weeks, collection: 1 month, distribution: 1 week. Delays could occur if volunteer turnout is low or logistics are disrupted.

Are you already working on this project, and for how long? What have you learned?

Yes, we started initial outreach last month and learned that clear communication with shelters is key for success.

I volunteer at a local shelter and saw firsthand the challenges they face in securing enough food.

Last year, I coordinated a city-wide clothing drive that collected over 2,000 items for families in need.
